Meet Jessica Liu
Jessica, a native Mandarin speaker and self-educated teaching artist, is passionate about helping students explore Mandarin Chinese and its rich culture. After moving to the U.S. from China for school, she experienced the contrasts between Eastern and Western cultures, which sparked her passion for bridging cultural gaps. With a deep belief in compassion and kindness, she strives to foster cross-cultural understanding and create a welcoming, engaging learning environment for those eager to explore a new language and an exciting world.
Jessica believes that language learning should be meaningful, engaging, and fun. Following the CI (Comprehensible Input) foreign language teaching philosophy, she guides students to naturally acquire Mandarin through storytelling, conversation, and gestures. In addition to these methods, she incorporates hands-on creative exploration to enhance comprehension and reinforce learning. Through activities such as creating Asian-style garden art, cooking authentic Chinese dishes, making handmade paper with flowers and leaves, practicing printmaking, designing unique jewelry, or engaging in brush painting and motif design, students connect with the language in a meaningful and immersive way.
Beyond teaching, Jessica enjoys sports, hiking, camping, and traveling, drawing inspiration from nature and new experiences. She values curiosity, open-mindedness, and compassion, integrating them into her approach to education, art, and life.
